What We Do

Conger Elementary School 1st Grade Reading

Our Kiwanis members spend time with 1st grade students reading books at Conger Elementary School. This quality time allows the student to perfect their reading skills and get support in their continuation of reading at home.

Kiwanis Key Club Sponsor

Our Kiwanis club supports Key Club service projects, facilitate the Key Club meetings, provide mentorships and provide college scholarships for the Key Club students. We are currently sponsoring the Buckey Valley High School Kiwanis Key club.

Recently the Buckeye Valley High School Key Club held a Shred-It day collecting materials people needed to have shredded, collecting over $600 to assist in projects.

Key Club Fundraisers include the upcoming Chipotle Fundraiser that entails 15% of sales during the period to go to the Key Club on Aril 3rd, 4-8pm.

Kiwanis Builders Club Sponsor

Our Kiwanis club supports and encourages the kids, through example, so they feel empowered to do great things in their communities. We support Builders Club service projects, facilitate the Builders Club meetings, provide mentorships. We sponsor the following Buckeye Valley Middle School Kiwanis Builders clubs:

People In Need (PIN) Distribution Support

In December every year, the club volunteers in assisting the People In Need (PIN) organization collect and prepare the giving of toys, clothes and food to families in need during the Christmas holiday. Volunteers work to pack up a holiday meal during the produce packing stage and then sort packages of gifts provided by various organizations to make it simple to find and hand out to the families the weekend before Christmas.

During the year, the club also assists in Produce distribution from the PIN site quarterly on the last Wednesday of the month, pulling the items for distribution, packing them together and distributing to needy families.

Sages & Seekers

In collaboration with the Delaware Connections organization, members of the club participate in High School program connecting students with older adults to learn from each other. In the Fall members can join the 8-week project that connects each of them with a student. The first week is an icebreaker event to kick-off the project, followed by a “speed-dating” type of event that allows the students to meet with each adult and ask questions so they can come up with a list of the top 3 they’d like to spend the next 4 weeks discussing commonalities and differences. The teacher of the class will pair the students with the adults for that 4-week session. The project ends with the students providing a tribute on what they learned from their Sage. It is a very rewarding and information project.

Little Brown Jug Junior Golf Classic

This club believes in both the mental and physical aspects of the children in our community by supporting the annual golf tournament for young golfers 7-17 years old. The tournament is held at the Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Delaware County Library (GEEKFEST & Medieval Day)

Every year the club provides support for events run by the Delaware County Library. Every even year they support GEEKFEST, a celebration of games and events such as COSPLAY, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Every odd year they support Medieval Day, a celebration of days of knights and damsels in distress with jousting, crafts, music, fun, food and games. These events are focused on children and families.

Connections Volunteer Center’s Make a Difference Day

As the year gets close to winter and the ground becomes covered with the fall of leaves, there is a need to assist those not able to afford or conduct the work required. The Kiwanis Club and their youth clubs participate in this annual project by providing manpower and equipment to clean up those specific areas.

Other Volunteer Projects and Donations

Each year the club also participates in several other projects such as:

  • Salvation Army Bell Ringing at locations in Delaware in December
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Christmas Wishing Tree Collection
  • YMCA Youth Leadership Programs
  • Delaware County Historical Society Youth Programs
